World's Largest Charity Wine Event Chooses San Francisco Agency To Design Theme For This Year's Auction. PhilippeBecker Design Creates Romance For The Napa Valley Wine Auction.

SAN FRANCISCO, CAJanuary 26, 2004 — PhilippeBecker Design (PBD), one of the Bay Area's leading packaging and branding agencies, today announced the latest addition to its expanding high-profile client portfolio with the signing of the 2004 Napa Valley Wine Auction. The yearly non-profit event, which is scheduled to take place this year on June 3rd - 6th, is expected to draw more than 1,800 attendees from around the world.

As a second-time contract winner for the event, PBD - which specializes in food and beverage design - disclosed a first glimpse of the Auction design based on this year's theme — "Isn't it Romantic — A Sparkling Toast to Napa!" — with event invitations and other design collaterals.

"We are extremely pleased with the look and feel that PBD has created for our event," noted Jamie Davies, Auction Chair. "They have the amazing ability to digest all of our messages, all of our goals, and interpret them in a visual that is right on the mark. Given last year's success, we couldn't wait to see what they would come up with next. And we weren't disappointed."

The design for the aforementioned event, "Copa de Napa 2003," in fact, led to PBD winning two prestigious 2003 American Graphic Design Awards. The honors, bestowed on the company by Graphic Design USA, focused specifically on the invitation and poster for this past summer's event.

"From a design and branding point of view, this particular event has amazing scope," noted Jay Cabalquinto, the design team's project director. "Wine has so many images that are already associated with it... elegance, romance, relaxation, entertainment. A sort of classy sex appeal. Yet here we are appealing to the wine experts. Our challenge was to develop an image that wasn't cliché."

The Auction, which raised an incredible $6.47 million last year, will be sponsored by the Napa Valley Vintners, a non-profit, professional trade organization representing 230 of Napa Valley's premier wineries. All proceeds will go to local Napa Valley health organizations and programs dedicated to providing affordable housing and youth development.
