PhilippeBecker Design Creates Brand for Project Homeless Connect
Mayor Newsom thanks San Francisco branding agency
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — June 23, 2005 — PhilippeBecker Design (PBD), a Bay Area branding and packaging agency, today announced the completion of the brand for Project Homeless Connect (PHC).
PHC is San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's innovative program to bring social services directly to the homeless citizens. Since its inception in October 2004, over 4000 volunteers have helped 3000 first-time and returning homeless clients obtain food, shelter, clothing, and medicine.
"San Francisco has a proud tradition of fighting for the less fortunate, and for using creativity and innovation to solve difficult social problems. Project Homeless Connect is an innovative program that we are very proud of. On behalf of every San Franciscan, I want to thank PhilippeBecker Design for their help," said Mayor Newsom.
PHC wanted a logo to inspire San Franciscans to help the homeless, and the homeless to reach out for services. The logo developed by PBD is a red rectangle with two clasped hands reaching from opposite corners. The tagline, "Never look down on someone, unless you are helping them up", visually reinforces the fact that people are eager to accept help toward self-sufficiency when they are approached in a respectful, kind manner.
"Every homeless person we see here in San Francisco is someone's sibling, parent, child, or neighbor. PBD is committed to our community, and wanted to help in a way that brings tangible results," said David Becker, PBD President. PBD made a significant pro bono investment for a 20-person agency, contributing over 200 hours to conduct its rigorous creative process. The PHC brand identity is used currently on billboards throughout San Francisco, on its website, supporting materials, and merchandise.
